Short-Term Exchange Program from School of Architecture, Southwest Jiaotong University to Politecnico di Milano

date:2021-03-16

Politecnico di Milano (referred to as "Polimi" for short) was founded in 1863 and located in Milan, Italy. It focuses exclusively on three core fields: Engineering and Technology, Design, and Architecture, and does not offer schools or programs in liberal arts, law, medicine, or other disciplines that are typically found in comprehensive universities.

Polimi is a member of the IDEA League (a consortium of top European technical universities), as well as a member of other prestigious alliances including the TUM-Polimi-Imperial College London European Talent Academy, the Mediterranean Network of Design Schools (MEDes), the China-Italy National-level Innovation Base (jointly established with Tsinghua University), and the Polimi-MIT ROCCA Consortium.

The Lombardy region, where Polimi is situated, is regarded as one of the most developed industrial zones in Europe. As the oldest university in the Milan area, Polimi is also the largest technical university in Italy and one of the country’s three public polytechnic universities. It was the first public university in Italy to offer master’s and doctoral programs entirely taught in English.

Polimi has 7 campuses in total: the main campus (Milan Leonardo) is located in the university district of central Milan; another campus is in Bovisa, a western suburb of Milan; and smaller campuses are distributed in five surrounding cities, namely Como, Lecco, Mantua, Cremona, and Piacenza.

Polimi adopts a centralized administrative management model. It has 12 Departments dedicated to scientific research and 4 Schools focused on education. The 4 Schools are:

  • School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction

  • School of Design

  • School of Civil, Environmental and Land Management Engineering
